The racism and misinformation at the heart of that panic deserve naming. Some have labeled the process of evacuating children with amputations and burns as being potentially linked to terrorism and even characterized their joyful cries as “jihadi chants.” That is textbook dehumanization: take a population of wounded kids and code them as a threat to justify exclusion. Many have commented on the chain reaction from such posts to the administrative action. The move came after an intense lobbying campaign by the right-wing activist Laura Loomer, who called the incoming flights a “national security threat” in a flurry of social media posts starting on Friday that targeted a nonprofit aiding in medical evacuations.
Loomer, a Trump advisor and well-known extremist Islamophobe, secured a phone conversation that same Friday evening with Secretary of Hate/State Marco Rubio alerting Rubio to this “Islamic invasion.” On Sunday Sycophant Rubio announced the new policy. This fascist quisling’s craven cowardice and industrial-strength inhumanity beggars belief and ranks with the ruthless and relentless brutality of Hitler’s ethno-nationalist agenda.
